Okay, so sometimes I have a post idea and the whole time I’m creating it I feel a bit foolish because… it’s probably common sense. That’s kind of like this one. I just feel like OF COURSE washi tape is pretty and it should be used to pretty up a party! I’ve used it in some way at almost every party I’ve decorated in the past couple years… so it’s kind of cheating to write a whole separate post about it, isn’t it? But then I thought… what if you don’t do this? You could save SO much time and money… and it makes a good excuse to buy every single roll of adorable washi you see (and we all need another excuse, don’t we?).
So why is washi tape so awesome for party decor? Well… you don’t ever have to use glue, it’s the perfect adorable size for flags and mini bunting, and it can be added to pretty much any surface. Your wall? Yep! String? You know it! Cutlery? Heck yes! And you’ll never have to worry about matching colours of cups to the colours of your garland because they’re all decorated with the same thing.
I’m not sure what your life is like… but I’ve totally been thrown into hosting or helping decorate a party with zero notice and zero supplies. Stores around here (ahem, dollar stores and Walmart)… they don’t have much cute party stuff (remember, we lost Target!). But I always, always have washi tape. And really, that’s all that you need to make a party look pretty. Unless you want that glittery ribbon garland… which is totally do-able with dollar store supplies too! You can find the DIY instructions right over here.
If the how-to isn’t totally obvious, here’s the 10 second DIY: wrap tape around straws, sticks, cutlery and string. Cut to points, pennants, and straight across to make fun flags and banners! That’s it. If you can’t find washi tape you love, can I point you to Etsy? I know some of you asked if I bought a set and mine is totally collected from sales and dollar bins BUT if I were planning a party with a specific scheme, I’d hit up Etsy… specifically this Mint set.
So tell me, is party decorating 100x less stressful now? Anyone else stuck with no party stores nearby? What is your go-to? Share with us in the comments! PS. My other cheat is my dad’s garden… because hello!

Aw, thanks so much Robin! I know you can get washi tape in sets on Etsy or Amazon, but mine was collected over time from sales and dollar bins :) The DIY for the ribbon was shared right here: http://www.modifyink.com/diy-confetti-dipped-garland-with-lemon-thistle/
