Today I’m excited to be sharing a sneak peek of Aubrey’s bedroom at our new place. We have a long way to go in here (we haven’t even painted yet! She wants pink…) but we’ve laid our new flooring, swapped out the doors, and replaced the trim. We’re doing this for every space in our house and if you are following along on Lemon Thistle, you might remember that I’m switching to all black hardware in our home with this swap. But… Aubrey just wasn’t into it. So I want to talk about how doorknobs can totally reflect the personality of a space (and those who live in it!) and show you the gorgeous knobs that we chose for her room.
This is part of our monthly Modern Handmade Home series and we’ve partnered with Grandeur Hardware to showcase some of their beautiful door knobs and hardware. You can find all the other ladies posts down at the bottom if you’re looking for some gorgeous inspiration!
Here’s a reminder of what was in there for a closet door before:
We really loved having solid core doors at our old place and even chose the same style that we did over there. We also loved having all ball catch closet doors instead of bifolds. So we swapped Aubrey’s closet door from a bifold (that in the two months we’ve lived here has caught a lot of fingers) to a ball catch door. I did everything in this room except the door… Shane has gotten pretty good at hanging doors now that he’s done SO many but I didn’t feel confident writing a tutorial on it. The only thing to keep in mind with ball catch doors is that you need the space to open the door into the room.
The knobs discussion actually started with her wanting gold and shiny. We took a peek at the website and when we spotted that these ones were called ‘Soleil’ she was sold because that’s the name of her cousin. I really love the style of these ones. Because they’re almost flat on the front, they still almost read a bit modern to me instead of too vintage. And that intricate design?! It’s so gorgeous! We chose the the Vintage Brass finish on these guys- I like how it softens the gold and looks more neutral than the really yellow gold brass.
I love that this little change reflects her personality so much! The rest of the house is going to have the same white doors and trim, the same floors… but those black features won’t make their way into her girly room and that makes her (and I!) so happy. She loves these things so much already- they came with a polishing cloth and she’s been polishing them every day ‘to keep them fancy’. This is such a big deal for her since she’s always shared a room with her brothers.
