Big thanks to Leon’s Furniture for sponsoring this post. Check out my full policies and disclosure here.
Happy Tuesday! Today I’m so excited to pop in and spill the beans on some exciting room makeovers I’ve been working on in partnership with Leon’s Furniture. We’ve spent our weekend painting and prepping and I can’t wait until furniture arrives and it all comes together BUT in the meantime, I’m excited to show you what we have planned! And yes… we’re doing not one or two but THREE rooms this fall to share with you all. Crazy, right? I feel a little bit crazy right now, but it’s the exciting kind of crazy.
Speaking of crazy… you’ll notice that these plans are totally festive. We’re making them over for the Leon’s Hello Holiday magazine that will come out in November so we’re planning holiday decor already. So just grab your cocoa and get down with it, okay?
Ready to see which rooms? The first is our master! Honestly- I’m totally in love with how moody and navy it is so that’s NOT changing. What is changing? The bed that I’ve had since highschool- seriously! Ha- we are so excited to have a new bed and not just a new bed but a KING bed that all of the little people that crawl in during the night can FIT. Before we add a fourth kid to the mix.
So what’s going into this room makeover? We’re leaving the wall colour and lighting the same- we’re totally in love with them still. You can see what it looked like most recently right here. We’re of course upgrading to a king bed and I could talk about that all day because I’m so darn excited. I’m at that point in pregnancy where sleep is so precious- even if we didn’t have kids that popped in for snuggles some (most) nights… I don’t sleep through the night anymore and I know a quality mattress would make such a difference! And the Simmons Beautyrest Garrett is just that. I’m saving all my sleeping for when it arrives ;)
We chose the Pine Ridge King Bed and matching slim nightstand again because it’s solid wood and totally classic. We really like the slate wood tone for our style and know it will stick with us even if our style changes a bit in our next house. Since our room will be totally cozy with a king, we’re keeping the nightstand slim and I love that even though it’s only 18″ it still has great storage.
The other thing we wanted to do with this update, other than a bigger bed, is to class up the space a bit. We really loved what we had but thought a fancy king bed deserved some sophisticated decor to match it. The first thing we’re doing is adding some moulding to the headboard wall. I’ve been eying all those gorgeous board and batten wall treatments on Pinterest and have been wanting to try it in our home. When I showed Shane a picture of what I had in mind, he jumped at it. So that’s what he did yesterday and he wasn’t kidding when he said he could do it in a day. It looks so good, you guys! I can’t wait to show you!
We’re also updating our bedding with some real deal sheets, a cozy rug and oversize Empire Mirror. A full size leaning mirror like that has been on my wishlist almost as long as a king bed. *almost* Oh, and I’ve convinced myself I’m going to learn to macrame so wish me luck #girlsnight
The second is the kids room! You can see what it looked like before right here.
With the arrival of our new babe in a couple months we have moved all three kiddos into one room and ore going for BUNKBEDS! The kids are SO excited for this change, Windsor has been having a ‘sleepover’ with Emmitt in his big kid bed almost every night lately. He’s more than ready to have his own (and Emmitt can’t stop talking about how he’s going to be on the top bunk). We decided to go with the Taylor Twin Bunk Bed because it’s solid wood and we know it will stand up to the use going through four kids. It’s totally classic and will never go out of style. Plus, we can get a trundle for it down the road because I know we’re going to have sleepovers happening all the time.
As for Aubrey… Little miss is going to get her very own tufted Sunset Headboard and that ‘fancy bed’ status has been enough to keep her excited about the change even if she doesn’t get a top bunk. I like that the buttons are a lighter grey which makes it a bit more fun and less ‘adult’. She’s also getting a brand new mattress since we’ll be short one moving Windsor into a big bed. She’s just excited for the bouncing but I’m looking forward to NOT buying another one because it’s such great quality #parentwin.
Other updates? Goodbye clouds! We painted the kids room and did away with the clouds feature wall. I did really love that wall but I just love the look of dark and cozy bedrooms and fell head over heels with this green after seeing it in the Hello Summer magazine (thank you for the inspiration Sabrina Smelko!). I’m planning on doing a fun gold detailed accent wall instead of the clouds.
We’re also getting the boys matching bedspreads (Windsor only has a baby blanket at this point) and Aubrey something more girly… and the biggest deal about all that? They’re not dry clean only. We’ve learned ;) AND a rug! We’ve never had one in the kids room but they spend so much more time playing in there now that they’re more independent and it will be so nice for them to have something cozy to lay on while they play.
The LAST space is the biggest: Our living room!
I’m really excited for this one too! This is the heart of our home and the space where we spend most of our days. When we moved in we redid the floors, paint, lighting, windows… pretty much all the bones but haven’t focused on designing- I’ve found it so overwhelming. Couches are such a big decision! As much as we’ve had great furniture handed down to us, it was so exciting to pick furniture that really works for our family. Shane has had a sectional on his wishlist for ages and I really love that the Downtown Sectional has a ‘cuddler’ corner opposite the chaise- perfect for storytime.
On my wishlist? Chairs instead of a matching love seat! The Jango chairs we chose are actually a taupe colour so they’ll be a different shade and texture than the sofa- and I’m all about that mix and match style. The chairs were really important to me because our living room is open to our dining/kitchen and I’ve always felt like the love seat backs towards the other spaces is awkward to walk around- it cuts off the spaces. BUT I really didn’t want to put a sofa or loveseat opposite the fireplace because that’s a half wall down to our split level entry and with kids that just makes me too nervous. You can see the most recent home tour to get a peek of what I mean about of our living layout.
To keep the open feel between the chairs even though there’s a table- I’m loving this Flow glass table. I’m going to need any and all of your end table/ coffee table styling tips though, you guys because we haven’t had a coffee table in FOREVER and we’ve ignored our end tables for a long time too. So send all the blog posts, okay? I’m loving that the Berkley coffee table brings a different wood tone into the space without trying to compete with all the live edge we’ve got going on in the living space. Plus- those legs totally compliment what we’ve got going on with our dining room table!
Last but not least in this space- and this just might be my favourite part- is the little desk and chair combo going on over there. With a growing family it’s getting harder and harder to make it downstairs to my desk and sneak work in before kids bedtimes. I’m looking forward to having a small space where I can sit down to hammer out a few emails while the kids are playing independently-without missing out on any of those cute giggles. The Marcel desk is super simple but has a couple drawers (something I’m missing in my desk down stairs!) and the Sunshine chair is actually a dining chair but I just couldn’t bring myself to do a giant office chair right in the middle of our living space.
Whew! That was a gigantic post. It probably could have been three, don’t you think? We are getting really excited to see these spaces come together but definitely have a ton of work to do before we can share. I hope you’ll come back and check out the reveals in Hello Holiday in November!
