Do you ever feel like you have 10 000 plans and not so many hours to complete them all? Since we realized summer is coming to an end (how!?), baby’s December due date is feeling crazy close and there are SO many things we’d planned to do before his/her arrival. It’s time to get crackin’! One of those things is a ‘big kids’ room for the twins. They’re turning two next month and have been sleeping on their crib mattresses on the floor for a while now (please don’t kick me out of the blogger club for this!). We are excited to finally get started on some of the changes that we’re going to make to their space.
Here’s what we’re working with. We actually never really ‘finished’ their nursery. Hopefully the next baby will have better luck ;) The paint colour is not changing- I’m much too lazy and I still do like it! The dresser will be moving out to make room for two twin beds, so a closet organizer is in desperate need. That arrow shelf I love too much to let go, and I want to give the window a copper curtain rod like our dining room. Beyond that?
We’re going DIY! We’re making the kiddos beds and nightstands ourselves- we’ve already dropped way too much money on casters and lumber at The Home Depot (I can’t wait to show you what is in the works!). Looking at the moodboard above… The bedding (comforter // sheets) and metal wall organizer is on it’s way from my favourite children’s store- The Land of Nod, and the garlands are being crafted and gathered. I’m still deciding on art for the room, but I know I’ll be DIYing a lot of that AND I have some fun plans for DIY throw pillows. I want each of them to have their own style of pillows- Aubrey to have some girly ones and Emmitt to have some awesome boyish pieces so that even though the bedding is the same, it’s clearly their bed. This is originally what I’d sketched out when I was planning.
I don’t think we’ll be able to float an area rug right now (bummer!) but I do have a couple sheepskin rugs that were in their room I’ll re-use. I’m also deciding on nightlights. We do have that lamp (on the dresser) but nothing to match for the other nightstand and I really like these woodland creatures from The Land of Nod. Anyways… those are my rough plans! I’m thinking that I will need to see the beds in there before I understand what else will fit. And I’ll need to see how the bedding works in person before I plan additional decor. But by posting this, I am now accountable to you all and will have to get moving on it! For now, my to-do list includes:
- Sew curtains & hang curtain rod
- Make beds and nightstands (well… this is on Shane’s list!)
- Create art for their walls
- Plan a closet organizer
- Sew throw pillows
I can’t wait to see it all start to come together! I’ll keep you updated as we go. I’d love to hear what you all think!

I love these plans! Especially your sketch. I’ll guess that your first redecorating challenges might come when the boys pick sports teams. Even my girls had a say when they chose different baseball teams! (Both were easy to accommodate.)

Thanks so much Stephanie! I can’t wait for those bins to show up and put them to use- I’m thinking they’ll fill up with stuffed toys pretty quickly.

Love t! We just redid my son’s room recently and I just went with repositionable stickers so he could do it himself and change easily when he outgrows TMNT
Thanks for sharing on Creative K Kids Tasty Tuesdays.

I love the idea of wall decals for that! When they’re old enough to make requests, I’ll have to keep them in mind :)
All that's Jas
