Sharing some updates we made to our brick patio for the summer- modern lounge furniture with a dark and moody vibe.
Today I’m excited to be joining forces with some amazing home decor bloggers to share our summer patio spaces! You can see all those down at the bottom of this post. This patio has seen some changes since I shared it in the spring and I’m so happy with how it’s functioning for our family as an outdoor living room. I have moved the furniture that was here in the spring to another patio that we are working on making over and I am hoping to have that one finished to share for the end of summer… but renovations are a funny thing and I can never seem to predict when I’ll be done a space.
On that note… these photos are all nicely zoomed in on because we are mid remodel on our other patios and exterior. In my mind… I would have been done the lower wood patio by now to share with you but it just hasn’t happened. I have mentioned before that I always want to be transparent as we go through this remodel the DIY way so I don’t give a false picture of what living through renovations looks like. So in the spirit of transparency (I know, this is the sort of things you share in IG stories- not on the blog), I wanted to share a nice zoomed out shot so you can see what a work in progress the rest of our patio space is!
We’re working on rebuilding that lower patio (it was totally unusable before!) before we tear down the upper deck (to the left) and rebuild that… then we’ll be residing the house since we pulled off all the cedar siding that was being feasted on by termites. It’s glamourous… isn’t it?!
The other thing I’ll point out is the brick pavers and how there is a distinct line where they extended the patio. The colours are so different that it’s really noticeable. I’d like to try staining them all a grey to blend the colours. BUT in the meantime… since we’re under construction, we wanted to make the best use of this lower patio. We put our Article Urba sectional down here and enjoy sitting there while the kids play (if I have friends over for play dates!) in the grass. It’s so comfy to lounge on and if we have a crowd, it’s easy to pull up the other chairs to seat more.
We were missing a coffee table surface in this setup at our last house and since we moved to a round table in our living room, we didn’t have a space for this coffee table. The base is metal which will be great for outside, but the top is a wood composite. Our plan is to leave it out here as long as it looks great, and when it starts to look damaged, DIY a new top using the base and concrete. I CAN’T WAIT for that project! But we should probably finish our siding first ;P
Speaking of DIY… I am working on a tutorial for that wooden screen we’ve put over our retaining wall! It makes such a difference in the feel of this space and is really easy to pull off. Once we’ve put the other deck in, we’ll continue the screen along the wall to the house.
That’s really all we changed! I planted a lot of the plants that were on my patio this spring… and killed some other ones. Oops. And then I added some cut branches from a flowering tree we have (just like my entire summer home tour!), but that’s really it! I love that this space takes so little to look cozy! I have a couple other things I was hoping to do this summer but the more we dig into the siding and deck building, the more I’m realizing it’ll have to wait for next year… like hanging patio lights I bought two years ago and have never hung. Ha! Anyone have great tips for hanging heavy patio light strings?!
Alright, thanks for coming to check out my patio! Now as promised… here’s all the amazing patios from some other bloggers I love!
