Stop what you’re doing and let me introduce you to little Henley. This little guy is so sweet and such a character already- at only 6 days old! One of my favourite things I do is photograph newborns. It’s not a full time business or anything, but when I get invited to capture images from the first days of a new life I never turn it down. When little Henley was born to my friend Erin, I was so honoured to be welcomed into their home during this precious time with their little one. I picked some of my favourites to share with you!
Isn’t he precious? He was awake the entire time I was there, even with cuddles and food- nothing was going to knock him out. He’s such a charmer, he was cooing away and making the sweetest little faces that made us all laugh.
I always try to get some shots of the babies’ precious parts- toes, fingers, ears and all those itty bitty rolls and wrinkles that they grow out of too quickly.
The one shot the parents really wanted was little Henley with his Daddy’s guitar. Isn’t this shot of his Daddy placing him on his guitar precious? Usually the prop shots are some of the quickest, but Henley was most content on the guitar over the beanbags or any other set up we tried. I have a feeling he’s going to play the guitar just like his Daddy. We got a couple of him in the guitar case too- I think they look pretty bad ass- if you can say that about a baby.
My favourite shots of the day are always the the ‘in-between’ moments, when the baby is getting cuddles or changed. There’s something so special about the way a family interacts and the love that is captured in these photos.
What do you think of newborn photos? Are you a fan of all the props and outfits there are out there or do you prefer naked baby or even lifestyle photos? I wish we had lifestyle photos done with our babes, I think they’re such a good reminder of that short time you have with them where all you have to do is cuddle.
