This recipe is dynamite. I made it a few months ago for the first time and it’s become a regular in our home. Not only is this recipe fresh, extremely flavourful and incredibly delicious but it’s so quick and easy you can have dinner on the table in ten minutes and anyone can make it.
Two amazing things have happened since we stumbled upon this recipe. Shane used to consider shrimp a ‘no how, no way’ type of food, only eating it when my family served it for dinner to be polite. Now, we have shrimp in the freezer all the time. Secondly, my husband used to refuse to cook anything but stirfry and spaghetti- but he’s become quite a chef and this is one of the reasons why. Since I can’t cook right now, all these pictures are of my husband making dinner. He’s made it one of his ‘signature’ meals to make for guests when they come over- it always impresses.
The original recipe is from Dinner a Love Story but they call it spicy shrimp. I don’t know when we changed the name but I like it better. We stick pretty much to their recipe but add a little more or less based on how it smells or what we have. I also found this recipe makes a lot of the spice mix and my husband would use it all so we made up a batch to have in the cupboard for quick meals. When I make it just for one night I just use a pinch of each spice… it goes something like this:
A pinch each salt, smoked paprika (it’s so much better with smoked paprika), cumin, curry powder, cayenne, and cinnamon. Mix these together and sprinkle over shrimp and saute them up! Serve with yoghurt, cilantro and lime (don’t skip this- it really makes it special). We skip the almonds they recommend… it’s perfect without.
(I know, I know, it’s time for a new fry pan- we’ll add it to my Christmas list).
Try it. Tonight. You won’t regret it! And then come back here and rave about how amazing it is.
