Wait a minute… I thought week 6 was the week that this whole One Room Challenge thing wrapped up!? OH yeah, it is. BUT this year they decided to give an extra week since so many shipments and such were delayed due to natural disasters. Can I let you in on a secret though? We’re totally done our space already #success! BUT I’m holding off to share the reveal with you until next week when ALL THE REVEALS happen. What an exciting week!
If you missed it, a few weeks ago I announced that we’re joining in as a guest participant with the One Room Challenge. It’s a challenge to join with other bloggers and renovate a space in your home in 6 weeks, sharing updates each week. The space we’re taking on is our one and only bathroom.
So this week I wanted to share some of the smaller decisions that went into this bathroom renovation. Helloooo decor accessories! I shared the design plan for this space in week one- so the staples have been long decided. But it wasn’t until partway through the renovation that I realized there were lots of smaller pieces I hadn’t even thought about. Decorating a bathroom? Who does that? Well… everyone sharing a bathroom in the ORC does! Ha! Towel bars, accessories, soap pumps, and shower curtains are ALL decorative if you want them to be.

Big thank you again to the sponsors for this project, Home Depot Canada and American Standard!
Let’s start with a refresh of the design plan, shall we? At the start of this- the tile, vanity, lights and faucets were all picked out (not the faucets in this picture, mind you). I knew what we were installing and we were off to the races. But what about accents? This is all pretty GRAY.
We chose to go with white for a paint colour to balance the grey flooring, vanity, and shower. So now what? White and grey? SO thrilling ;)
The mirrors we ended up buying had a thin metal black frame and the hooks we had already installed (prior to renovation) on the back of our door were also a matte black. I love the contrast of black and white, so thought we’d play with that a little bit more. Do you know how hard it is to find black hardware for a bathroom? That doesn’t cost a fortune…. that is available in Canada… that is beautiful… it’s challenging! I am SO excited about the pieces we ended up finding.
We ended up ordering one towel bar for the hand towel, and three modern double hooks for other towels (plus the two on the back of the door), plus a toilet paper holder all from CB2. Can I just say that spending money on a toilet paper holder isn’t nearly as exciting as spending money on other beautiful things? Haha! We would have loved to do a second towel bar for the second hand towel on the other side of the sink- but it’s a small space and that is the only space for hooks or bath towels. Shane is voting for me to order another and install it on the side of the vanity over there, but I’m hesitant to do that… what do you think?
So now we have black, white and grey. Again… not the most colourful! I’m not a colour gal in the first place, but Shane really wanted a splash of colour… so you know our compromise? Navy. Seriously, you guys… imagine how that conversation went! He’s all… how about something fun like YELLOW and I just stared at him. So I found this indigo dye shower curtain from Bed Bath and Beyond (it’s biggest selling feature is that it could get here in time!) and am sewing a footer on to lengthen it. Why lengthen it? I talk all about that in this post about custom shower curtains. Because it’s a big deal to me ;)
Beyond those pieces, we decided on the metal baskets for underneath the vanity. On top of the vanity, I bought one these pretty glass soap pumps from Superstore for each sink and found some pretty grey and white turkish towels (I just LOVE the tassels!).
To bring some life into the space, I’m planning to add some plants- because what space doesn’t benefit from plants?! I snagged this hanging planter from Sears when it was closing. I want to get a couple other ones to spread between the open shelving and maybe one on the vanity. I LOVE that little black guy from HM Home but I’m not sure it would get here in time so I’m going to try find something locally. I’m also still looking for a couple things to add to the open shelving. I reaaally need to decide on some kind of basket and if I want to have canisters on the shelves… or if some decorations that I already have are a better fit.
SO you guys… NEXT WEEK is the reveal! Isn’t that exciting? I can’t wait to share how it’s all turned out with you! And don’t forget you can check out all the other One Room Challenge guest participant rooms over here.

Haha, I so feel ya on the grey and white problem! Every time I show my ideas to my husband, he makes the same quip: “I’ve said it before but I think it has too much color.” (It is completely devoid of color). The struggle is real! This is going to be gorgeous though…everything you touch turns beautiful. Can’t wait to see next week!

Ahhh thank you Laura! I’m glad I’m not the only one- but if your husband tells you the same thing then I’m in good company, I love your designs :)
