I am excited to share with you some photos that my husband snapped of me recently. I really wanted to have images that would help me remember this pregnancy and had the hardest time deciding what kind of maternity photos I wanted. There were a few things that were making my decision more difficult.
1. The photographer I really wanted doesn’t live around here anymore so we either had to get them done really early or risk me being on bed rest closer to my due date (perks of a twin pregnancy).
2. I was evenly split between at home lifestyle photos (like these!) and outdoor photos with fun props and a beautiful setting.
SO. After talking with Troi Crombie (both my good friend and photographer I had my heart set on), we agreed that we’d rather get some shots early in-case I happened to have complications or go into early labour (thankfully so good so far!). We thought we’d do some outdoor ones early on, while I still could and do some home shots closer to the date. Check out those here!
We had an awesome shoot with Troi a couple months ago- I can’t wait to get my hands on them, I’ll be sure to share some! I was pretty bummed when we couldnt work out a time to do the home shots when she was back last week, so my husband (being ridiculously awesome) suggested we do some ourselves. Now that might sound crazy as my husband is no photographer, but he insisted we’d have fun. And we really did.
I set up the camera in manual and having used it once or twice before, he’s got the hang of focusing (mostly). I am so impressed with the shots he got- and honestly no one makes me feel better about myself than he does so that made it much easier to get in front of the camera at 32 weeks.
One of the things that makes these shots really precious to me (other than Shane being the one behind the camera) is that it highlights our first home. Since we’re in the process of selling our apartment, our kids wont know this place that we’ve called home for four years. The wallpapers we’ve put up, the lighting, paint colours, art on the walls, even the couches- these things won’t be coming with us, but I adore them. We wanted to remember the special things about this place during this time in our lives- including the way the afternoon light streams through our windows and my favourite coffee cup that I insist Shane washes by hand for me (dishes isn’t on my list of approved activities right now, I’m not missing it!).
We made sure to take a photo with all of the names we’re considering for the babes too- we’ve been using a chalkboard in our spare room to keep track of the ones we like for the past 7 months. We know some of them are likely to change but wanted to remember what life was like for us at this point in time- and for our kids to know what we thought of naming them.
I’m so glad we took the time to do this, I’ll cherish these images. What do you think of my hubby’s photo skills? Pretty awesome, if I do say so.
