I am so excited to share with you some of the most beautiful photos you’ve ever seen on this blog. And they’re not mine. But this post isn’t just about gorgeous photos (which they are, they really are), it’s the best birthday gift I have ever heard of for little girls. You remember my friend Troi Crombie (she took my maternity photos), well she introduced me to Jen Hawkins and this magical shoot of their little girls.
Every little girl I know loves to feel pretty, not only did Jen and Troi dress their little girls up like the cutest fairytale princesses, but they treated them like princesses setting up this gorgeous birthday photoshoot for them. Um, the best… right? So needless to say, I had to share these shots Jen captured of the two sweet girls with you. Did I mention Jen styled the shoot as well? One talented lady, I tell ‘ya.
Here’s what Jen had to say about the shoot:
“Little girls have a magic of their own” Unknown
There is nothing more inspirational than a little girl. The magic they bring to the world through their thirst for knowledge, excitement about life and innocence is exquisite. This vintage shoot was inspired by the soft pastel colors of spring and naturally included a camera as both mamas of the girls are photographers. The two little girls truly displayed their love for play. Both quickly became fascinated with the camera and took turns pretending that they were little photographers as they played in the meadow.
The innocence that only a child can display is truly magic. Being the spring time, when the mosquitoes are the worst, we came prepared with bug spray. There was also higher than normal bear activity in the area so we made sure that we had bear spray with us and gave the girls a little run down on the procedure if we were to encounter a bear. While Leta was being sprayed down with bug spray she asks “are you going to put bear spray on me as well mommy?” we truly had gut wrenching laughs!
The inspiration came from my daughter Isabel’s love for all things pretty, her thirst for knowledge, and excitement about life. It was put together for her 7th birthday shoot and as it evolved it didn’t seem quite complete. That is when I asked Troi if she would like to include Leta in the shoot. Leta’s birthday is a week before Isabel’s birthday and it seemed like the perfect fit. This bohemian shoot quickly came together and I believe it really represents the innocence of their age. The flowers crowns were made by myself, the tipi was made by Modern Tipi located in Calgary Alberta, and the babies breath bouquet was put together by The Rose Peddler Flower Shop in Blairmore Alberta.
If you want more of Jen’s amazing work, you can check out her website, Facebook or Instagram. I’d love to hear what you guys think of this idea! I’m more than sold, and wish someone would put one of these shoots together for me for my birthday… it’s next week if you’re wondering ;)

I can’t wait until my little girl sits for pictures! Right now we spend a lot of the time just chasing her around or trying to get her to look at the camera. :) What a beautiful shoot and an amazing setting – wonderful job, ladies!
