This sew your own doll dress is the perfect gift idea for a crafty tween that has an 18″ doll to dress!
I made this little gift for my niece a couple years ago and stumbled across the photos a couple weeks ago which made me realize… I never shared this with you all! A couple years ago I needed something small to add to my niece’s Christmas gift and knew that she loved her dolls and also knew that her mom had taught her to sew that year. I was browsing the new Cricut Maker sewing patterns when they’d first released the rotary blade (cuts fabric like a dream!) and spotted this dress pattern and knew I should cut some out for her to try… so meet the DIY Doll Dress Gift Idea!
They are a pretty detailed pattern so they definitely take adult help, but the dresses are so cute. These dresses fit the 18″ dolls like the American Girl, Journey Girls, and My Life dolls (I’m sure there’s others, but you get the idea!).
I found all the materials called for in the instructions and Aubrey helped me mix and match some patterns. We cut them out and packed them together with some printed instructions and ta-da! Instant gift. It’s like giving IKEA furniture that they have to assemble but it was the perfect last minute thing to put together- and so fun for a crafty girl that loves her dolls. I know growing up I would have loved sewing this with my grandma!
There are lots of designs to choose from, but I chose this dress here. I loved the simple lines and how it would look great with the fun patterns Aubrey was choosing. Alright… I’ll leave it at that! It’s such a simple gift to pull together and I know I would have loved to make a DIY doll dress as a kid.

Hello!
Am I missing something? How do you get the paper pattern turned into an SVG??? I guess that is the part that I haven’t figured out. Looking forward to a response.
Thank you!!

It is loaded into design space! You don’t take the paper pattern you have and turn it into an SVG, you choose one that Design Space has in their store :)
