Now, I know that this may not look like anything too fancy… but you guys! It’s darned practical. And I’m also darned proud of this. It was my first time doing electrical, and I even have video evidence. You can’t tell me that’s not rad ;)
This year, I’m on a mission to simplify (as is everyone else, I’m sure!). One of the clutter hot spots in our home is our kitchen island. There’s no way around it. It’s the perfect dumping ground at the top of our stairs and we don’t have a good location for a ‘hub’ or little desk in our living area to collect such things. We’ve made some changes that keep pens, calendars, and keys off the counter BUT the one thing that was driving me bonkers? All those charging blocks and cords! We got some portable chargers (woohoo!) for Christmas, which just added to the charging madness that was piling up on our island. That was the push I needed to do something about it. We’ve had this charging station set up for a week now and it’s already made such a huge difference! We’ve even had visitors compliment it- I guess NO ONE likes all those charging blocks.
The best part of this station for me is that it keeps it all off the countertop. I don’t have to pick up devices to wipe the counter and it doesn’t take up any visual space on surfaces- which no matter how tidy it is always looks like clutter to me!
To DIY your own wall mounted charging station, you’ll need:
- Wall File (Mine is this metal envelope wall holder)
- Screws, Drywall Anchors (if needed), Drill (with appropriate bits), Screwdriver
- USB Plug
Check out all my instructions in the video below! Essentially, you just mount the wall file near your outlet, and swap out a regular plug for a USB friendly one. I give lots more tips in the video BUT please don’t use my tips as your electrical guide. If you’re not comfortable changing a plug, get help ;)
Psst! This is just one of many videos in The DIY Mommy’s YouTube Organization DIY and Home Decor Challenge (That’s a mouthful!). You can check them all out on the playlist!

Thanks so much Jessica!

Just wondering if you lined the inside so it doesn’t scratch your items?
Colleen Pastoor
Great Q! I did not. My husband actually suggested that but all of our tech is in cases (not in this photo, I guess ;) except for the mobile chargers which I’m not picky about getting scratched so I decided against it. If anything, I might run a line of hot glue along the very bottom where the metal seam is for a little bumper.
