I’m sure I’ve mentioned it 1000x by now, but I’m slowly working on a Nursery for Windsor (he’s almost 5 months old now!). And while it’s not totally done… I couldn’t help but share this fun and simple DIY with you that lives in there. When I unpacked my swag from SNAP I spotted this navy vinyl from Expressions Vinyl (the most affordable vinyl btw) and knew it needed to find a place in Windsor’s room… so meet my reverse vinyl quote art!
So I’m sure that this has been done before, but my brain could not think of other search terms and ‘reverse vinyl quote’ turned up nothing. So I wung it (that’s a real thing) and am here to tell you how you too can wing it.
I lettered this quote using a brush pen before digitizing it into a black and white file to make it easy for you to create your quotes with. So I’ve got this handlettered design available as a download for you so you can make your own. And I got carried away and made a printable version to send out to my email list this week. If you’re not on my list… hop to it!
So here’s the how-to (it’s so simple). Grab this design –for personal use only– (or any other design you love with a high contrast), and upload it to Design Space or whatever your cutting machine software is. I use a Cricut, so the photo is showing what Design Space looks like. Select ‘cut file only’ and size it to about 11″ long.
Put your sheet of vinyl on your mat, letting a bit hang over the top and left edge to fake ‘centre’ it. Hit go and when it comes out, cut your edges and round corners. If I were a Cricut superstar- I would have done this in the program. But a craft knife and ruler works just as well. Then weed it BUT weed it the opposite way you normally would. take all the letters and leaves out and leave the rest. I lost some of the detail bits because I use a craft knife to weed… one day I’ll get my hands on the proper tools!
Then use your transfer tape and apply it to your wall! You can get transfer sheets that would be big enough to cover the whole thing, but I like the giant rolls of transfer tape you can get- more bang for your buck. And you can just layer two pieces to cover the whole design.
It’s really no different than a standard vinyl quote… but I love the effect of it being reversed! I can’t wait for you to see it with everything else that’s going on in that room. It’s going to be oh so good!
Oh, and since we’re talking about babies (weren’t we?), this cute little face was watching me the whole time I was putting it up. Irresistible.

I looooovvve this! Thanks for sharing. Is this able to be used on the Silhouette too or just the Cricut?

Either or! I created a PNG file, so really- you could even use it with a printer and cut it by hand :) I’d love to see it if you make one!
