I am so excited to be partnering again with Shaw TV in Kamloops to bring you some more DIY videos! Today’s DIY is a fun way to add some personality to plain ol’ wooden kitchen tools. I’m adding pops of colour to this wooden cutting board and these wooden spoons. These would make awesome housewarming gifts, bridal shower gifts (pair it with a cookbook!), or just a gift to brighten up your kitchen. If you’re anything like me, when you’re done you wont want to give them away.
So although I’m being super healthy here and making slaw… If you follow me on Instagram, last week I posted (seriously) my KD lunch. I gave a sneak peak of this project in that post, but what I didn’t realize is how MUCH you all love KD. That post got more likes and comments than most of my photos! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who reaches for that box on tough days… you guys are the best! Ready for the how-to on these neon edged kitchen tools? Let’s go!
Easy peasy, right! It just takes using the right paint (or else you’ll end up with a chippy mess) and the sealing is really important as well. You can also seal with bees wax, but walnut oil is pretty fuss-free AND it’s found in your grocery store so you won’t be stuck ordering something. My favourite detail is the leather strap I added to the cutting board. I’ve been loving all the leather handled cutting boards that have been popping up on Pinterest so when I spotted how this handle was attached I couldn’t wait to try it for myself. I cut the piece of leather from an old belt and the tiny holes were the perfect size to attach it to the cutting board with screws!
These guys add the perfect dash of colour to my otherwise super neutral kitchen. I love that my kitchen is so neutral, but I planned it that way so we could keep cycling through fun stuff on the counter (and mats on the floor), y’know because I’m always up for change! What would you paint? Would you go neon like me, or keep it a bit more neutral? I’d love to try white too!
