This DIY modern fall wreath has minimalist charm and is the perfect afternoon craft to get your home ready for autumn!

I love the look of dried grasses for home decor but have had such a hard time finding a fall wreath that is both neutral and minimal. I don’t want orange flowers and pumpkins woven into mine and apparently that’s hard to find for a fall wreath without dropping a bunch of cash. Since I was looking for one for outside my front door and it gets quite a beating from the weather, I wasn’t looking to spend much on a wreath for here.
I was out for one of my evening walks and the path I walk is surrounded by hip height of these grasses. The next night, I decided to bring clippers and a bag and trimmed some to make myself a wreath. This DIY modern fall wreath was quick, easy, and checks all the boxes I was looking for.

The DIY instructions for this one are pretty simple. Every once in a while I take the time and write out a blog post like this where I figure you could probably guess the how-to, but I know there’s something about seeing someone else do it with a ‘here’s what I did!’ that gives the confidence or push of ‘I can do that!’ that you need. So here goes nothing!
Collect yourself an armful of fall grasses, a brass hoop (mine is from the dollar store), clippers and a hot glue gun.

I lined my countertop with wax paper just to prevent the hot glue from sticking to it. Then I got to trimming small bunches of the grasses and gluing them onto the hoop. I found two dabs of glue per bunch worked best and worked my way around with the grasses all in one direction. I added more in on a second pass before deciding I was happy with how it looked.
I had quite a bit of extra grasses leftover, so I could have kept going and made it more substantial. Maybe I’ll add to it next year, but for now I love how understated it is!
If you’re finding you’re burning your fingers, try using a silicone spatula to press the grasses in place once you’ve applied the hot glue!

That’s it! Love how delightfully simple this DIY modern fall wreath is- it’s exactly what I’d pictured! I might try making another with some different shades of brown as well, I’ll just have to find a new walking path ;)
