One of the things I did for the kids last year on Valentine’s day was make them some modern XO t-shirts. This year I wanted to make myself one and Aubrey wanted to have a matching one. Emmitt decided he’d rather have a house on his shirt so he got that ;)
And seriously… just making these DIY heart shirts gave me a great excuse to get some fun pictures with Miss A and I. Feel free to scroll past the WAY too many images of her and I having a ball and get to the instructions.
I’ve been loving all the big heart shirts I’ve been spotting out there and wanted to make my own but know a giant patch of iron on is probably not going to stand up or be super soft so I gave it a spin and made it stripes to cut down on some of the iron on bulk. And I actually love it more than the solid hearts! Go figure ;)
So today I’m sharing the free digital file so you can go ahead and make your own DIY Heart Shirt. Just scale it up or down for a kids size shirt or adult size. You could even scale it way down and make a onesie. I always measure the space on the shirt I want to cover and size it accordingly.
See how she imitated me? It’s amazing.
For this project, I used iron on vinyl (both flocked- discontinued BOO! For Aubrey’s and easy weed for mine) and my Cricut to cut the design. Just weed it and iron it on according to directions and you’re GOOD to go.

The steps on putting your own image in Cricut Design Space if you haven’t (I think I’m going to write a post on this soon!). Click New Project, Upload Image, Select your file, Simple Image, Click the white area to delete it, then save as Cut only file and insert. It’s really not as hard as this run on sentence makes it sound. Pinky swear.
It’s such a simple DIY and there is something so satisfying about wearing a shirt you designed. And, let’s be honest, there’s something crazy cute about a mommy and me matching outfit. This is the first time for us and I can see it happening SO much more!
This is part of 40+ rad Valentines projects that you can find below- hop around and check them out!
