I love how this simple metal pail is transformed into porch decor using some paint and hand lettering. I lettered ‘Welcome Autumn’ on one side and filled it with pinecones and pumpkins for instant fall decor and lettered the reverse side with ‘Trick Or Treat’ to make for an easy treat bowl for halloween! Just flip it over and you’re set for the whole fall season.
I shared all the details on how to make this fall and halloween craft over on my YouTube channel a few weeks ago and thought I’d share it with all of you on the blog as well! This decor is perfect for the porch or entry filled with pinecones and mini pumpkins for fall and fill it with treats (or pumpkins again!) for Halloween. Here’s the video to show you how to make your own- I also detail the supplies below if you’re at work and are watching with sound off!
To make your own reversible porch decor- here’s what you’ll need:
- A bucket- mine is just from the dollar store
- A paint marker (I used a black Montana marker for the Trick or Treat side) OR
- Paint with a small round paint brush (I used Fusion Mineral Paint in Bayberry for the green)
That’s it! Before you do anything at all- make sure to scrub that bucket down. I’m not sure what kind of coating it had on there to make it shiny but I didn’t do this first and had so many issues with the paint sticking. After a good clean with lemon essential oil I had no issues with adhesion. I did just freehand both of these buckets but you could definitely use a stencil if you prefer. I shared a video about how I like to letter on surfaces using paint markers right HERE and if you want to get an autumn hand lettering practice sheet… I have that HERE. If you’re looking for more hand lettering tips- I do have a whole e-course about that right HERE.
It’s really so SO simple! If you end up making one for yourself, I would love to see a photo! I’m also thinking of making a holiday version- one for winter, one for Christmas… what do you think?
