I was going to title this Cheap to Chic- but I’m not sure if anyone uses that word anymore? Or if this even qualifies as chic. But it definitely was cheap! I headed to the dollar store to get plastic eggs to make a garland (as I’ve noticed on Pinterest this year) when I saw this mini version- already assembled for me! One dollar later I had this tacky garland home and ready to paint. I’ve found some cute chalkboard egg tutorials as well, but haven’t seen it translated to a garland. I love the idea, but I’m still loving metallics (will I ever get over this?).
So, I used chalkboard paint because I love the flat look to the paint, and the coverage is good too. But then I added some gold with a fine tip paint pen to give my metallic love some satisfaction. It took three quick coats of chalkboard paint to get the colours covered, but didn’t take too long (other than dry time) to get it finished.
I drew Easter Egg patterns on random eggs in the garland and wrote ‘Happy Easter’ on the eggs in the middle. I would use this on a buffet table if we were having an Easter dinner.
Do you have any tacky decorations you could makeover with paint? This was so quick and dirt cheap it was the perfect ‘mini project’ for our Easter table.

oh gosh, creative things like this are exactly the reason i love your blog – what a fun idea! i’m storing up all these fun crafts for when i have a house of my own to decorate. i think i would spray paint with metallic colors though?? or maybe vintage teal??

Thanks! I was actually picturing metallic paint first- but had some leftover chalkboard paint so went with that instead. I think that would look so classy!

Adorable! I’m such a big fan of black & gold, I bet these looked so great in your home. Hope you had a great Easter weekend! xo

Isn’t black and gold a deadly combination? My Easter was wonderful- hope yours was too!

This is a beautiful idea Colleen! I actually picked up some of the plastic easter eggs from Superstore (I liked their colour choice) and made a garland for my apartment. I forgot I hung it up one night though and it broke so when I came out of my room the next morning, eggs were everywhere. I thought the Easter Bunny had shown up, was sorely disappointed!

Ha! That’s too funny, I would be so confused first thing in the morning until I realized…

You’re so stylish! Some day, I will put this amount of work into decorating. I’m just not sure when that day will come. Super cute idea!

Oh, thanks :) I never did, but having babies makes me want every occasion to be a bit more special
