Sharing our cozy holiday bedroom update. Our black bedroom is holiday ready with a skinny flocked tree, fresh greenery and luxe bedding.
As we are gearing up for the holiday season, I took some time to decorate our primary bedroom this year. It’s one of my favourite spaces in our home, but since we are really the only ones to enjoy it, I hadn’t put the time into giving it a holiday makeover any other year. Each of our kids have a small Christmas tree in their room (see here and here)… and in our last home I blogged a holiday bedroom…
But somehow I have skipped over ever doing our current room! This year… that’s changing, thanks to Brooklinen and this super soft bedding. Today I’m partnering with them to share my holiday bedroom update! (You can see all my policies here.)
If you’re on the fence about decorating your bedroom for Christmas, can I just encourage you to go for it? It’s magical to get ready for bed by Christmas tree light. SO lovely. I just enjoy being in here on these cold winter nights (4PM… ugh!) so much more with the warm tree light. It’s well worth it.
That said, I don’t love to add a TON of extra decor to my spaces when I’m decorating for the holidays. Or any season, really. I’ve talked about this many times in the past- but I love some clutter free decor. I want to be able to set down my coffee and my phone and my water cup and what if I have a third beverage and a book on the go?
My home and the surfaces I have in here need to serve me and I’m a girl who likes to have 2 drinks on the go at all times and somewhere to drop them when I hear a kid crash in another room.
The main piece of holiday decor in here is, of course, the skinny flocked Christmas tree. This tree I originally bought for my office. In the past, I’ve spent months getting ready for holiday sales, crafting ornaments and loved having my tree up in there to display and photograph the ornaments on before we decked our whole house.
This year I’m skipping all of that in my business and that freed up the tree to bring to our bedroom (yay!). It’s compact so the perfect size for a bedroom where you don’t want to sacrifice a ton of space to additional decor.
I kept the tree decor simple and tied plaid fabric ribbons to the branches. I shared about these in this post, they’re actually leftovers from my late grandpa’s shirts. My grandma would take all his new shirts and make them short sleeve for him, but would save the sleeves *just in case*. I love that I get to remember that about him each year when I pull these out to decorate.
I wrapped a holiday throw blanket around the base of the tree. I know tree collars are *in style* but I love how cozy a blanket looks around the base of a tree instead. We do this for our main tree as well.
Other than holiday decor, the other big change we made to the space is our bedding. We’re so excited to have upgraded to Brooklinen’s Luxe Sateen Sheets and Duvet Cover. They’re SO so buttery smooth, you guys. They feel like the fanciest of hotels I’ve ever slept in, so comfy!
We have been talking about upgrading our sheets for a while now, we spend more time in bed than we do on any other piece of furniture… it should be super comfortable! And pretty ;)
I’ve always found shopping for sheets a bit overwhelming- other than threadcount, what am I looking for? After seeing SO many glowing reviews for Brooklinen, I was excited to try them for myself. There’s a reason for those reviews! They’re honestly the smoothest sheets I’ve ever felt.
The sheet set came with a top sheet, so we are back to using a top sheet… for now. Shane is team top sheet but I’ve never been able to get fully on board. Maybe this is the time. Do you use them?
I wanted a little more interest than plain white, so chose a Window Pane duvet cover- I love how this is a subtle pattern but definitely so much more interesting than regular ol’ white.
I paired it with a Warm Grey sheet set, I’m such a sucker for any kind of greige, it’s subtle but cozy compared to a cool grey. They pair so well with our black walls, natural wool rug and light oak flooring. It pulls the whole space together so beautifully! I love that they let you mix and match colors/patterns in this Luxe Hardcore Bundle.
If you’re interested in trying Brooklinen bedding for yourself, they’re having their biggest sale EVER right now with 25% off everything. It’s on until the end of the month, no code needed! See the set I got HERE.
In the bay window sitting area, I added a nutcracker (Shane’s favourite type of decor!) and a wintery arrangement with a holiday scented candle. So simple, but keeping it simple makes me feel so at peace in this space.
If you’ve been following Lemon Thistle for a while, you’ll probably have noticed that I love to decorate with fresh (and dried) greenery instead of decor pieces whenever possible. I typically have a large plant here, you’ll see at the end of this tour that I moved that over to the mirror area to make room for the tree. But I wanted to add back in a little more greenery!
I have grown a small cut flower garden the past couple summers and saved these straw flowers and dried them to use in winter arrangements- aren’t they so pretty with the cedar branches and dried magnolia leaves? You can read more about how I dry flowers here.
I bought just one bundle of cedar branches and used them on the arrangement on my night table as well. I still have a full vase of branches to use in the rest of the house, it stretches so far… and smells amazing!
On my end table, I added some branches and skipped the flowers. I love how this keeps it casual while still bringing the festive holiday greens into the space. No Santa’s necessary in this cozy holiday bedroom ;)
Shane’s night table always has this polar bear on there. He used to have a rhino, but when the kids were young they broke it. We found a similarly geometric polar bear one year and he insists it’s year round decor.
I added some bottle brush trees to it for the holidays. There’s some things I won’t change up season to season because they bring joy- this is one of them. But it sure works well for winter!
This angle really doesn’t look festive, but it’s one of my favourite shots to get of our bedroom… year round ;) Since the Christmas tree took the plant’s regular spot, it gets to shine here making our bedroom look extra jungle-y from this angle!
I’m going to leave it at that- I’m so very happy with how this cozy holiday bedroom feels. Honestly the room feels new again to me with the fresh bedding and the addition of holiday decor. I love waking up in here. I’d love to hear your favourite part of the space!
Big thank you to Brooklinen for partnering on this cozy holiday bedroom update!
