Well, it’s official! As of this weekend we have a guest room… for the first time ever! Shane and I have been married for almost ten years and while we’ve definitely had overnight guests a few times… they’ve slept on the couch, air mattresses, foamies or the futon we bought for our last house. And while this worked… technically… it wasn’t great. We always wished we could have offered a real good bed with a great night sleep for them- especially since they’re driving or flying to town to visit us.
Thanks to Leesa… now we can do just that! This room was in such rough shape, you guys. It had holes in the wall (like… I’m pretty sure people put fists through this wall it was in really, really bad shape), it had no baseboard, it had different shades of bright green paint… not relaxing at all. We still have some work to do in here in terms of decorating and both the closet and ensuite need work before they’re functional, but we can have guests! And they can get some great rest. And that’s what really matters, isn’t it?
So far in this space, I’ve patched all the holes in the walls (this took days, you guys!), painted, added baseboard, and swapped out the curtains. And of course… set up the bed! Which all made me want to take a nap in here… with the door closed and no kids around ;)
This post is part of our monthly Modern Handmade Home series and this month we’ve taken on bedroom spaces to make a home for a Leesa mattress (find all the posts linked at the bottom of this one!). I’m excited to have this space done for the meantime. I love these monthly challenges and especially love the push that they give me to get things DONE.
This bed frame is what you might call well used. I’ve had this baby since high school. But the mattress? That’s brand new. Since we partnered with Leesa (there’s a discount code at the bottom of this post!) to make this space happen- I wanted to share some of my favourite things about the company. But just to set the record straight… this mattress is ridiculously comfortable. Like… I have major back issues since an accident and this thing feels like a dream. I’m a bit jealous that my guests get to sleep in it- ha!
I love that Leesa doesn’t just stand for total comfort in a mattress but also for social good. I feel like they’re doing more than they just have to and I’m all about it. For every 10 mattresses sold- they donate one. So far that means they’ve donated more than 30, 000 mattresses…. YOU GUYS! That’s huge! Before kids, I worked with not-for-profits and mattresses were always a large expense. This is something I never would have thought of before working there, but makes total sense because they’re not something you can typically get used (unlike other furniture), because by the time that they are donated… they’re not great or clean or… well… would you want to use a super used mattress?
Also.. if you test out your mattress and decide it’s not for you- they’ll donate yours too. Lastly… they plant a tree for every mattress sold. If I’m doing my math correctly and know how many mattresses they’ve donated and that’s for every 10 sold… that’s a TON of trees. And that’s amazing.
Okay, I promised a discount code… and I’m going to share it BUT I did want to show you how this mattress unboxes! It comes in a box that you won’t believe holds a whole queen mattress… I mean look at it! But it is really heavy because it is a WHOLE MATTRESS in there. Somehow. I hauled it out and had a little helper with unboxing it. If I could do it… with a self timer camera and a baby helping me, I’m positive that you can unbox it yourself too! And honestly, unboxing this was totally fascinating both for me and the babe… I’m still in awe that a whole queen mattress just shipped in a box right to our door.
I want to point out how wrinkly the mattress is in these unboxing photos! It definitely takes a day or so to fill up and look not wrinkly. So if you unpack yours and it’s got creases and such… don’t freak out!
Alright, I’m going to leave this post at that, you guys… I’m so happy with this mattress and can’t wait to host our first guest in a real guest bedroom. It’s so nice to know that they’ll be getting a good night sleep on a real (amazing) mattress. Also… I might sneak down here and have naps when my kids are running crazy upstairs. Because it’s SO comfy and what mom couldn’t use a floor between her and her kids when she’s trying to nap? ;)
If you’re wanting to get your own Leesa mattress… I’ll be an enabler… with a $150 off coupon. Just use the code LEMONTHISTLE at checkout! And if you get one… let me know how you like it! Given how much we like it, I’m sure you’ll love it too. I’m sure you’ll also love skipping the mattress store… that’ can’t just be me who avoids them, can it?!
